Statement ahead of Africa Youth Day Celebration (AYD) 2021.

Member States of the Africa Union (AU) will on Monday, 1st November commemorate Africa Youth Day (AYD). An auspicious day set aside to highlight the immense contributions of young Africans to the cultural, political and socio-economic development of their communities.

The National Youth Authority-Ghana (NYA), under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) will be celebrating this year’s (2021) event with a series of activities including a durbar & launch of “Stop Teenage Pregnancy” campaign; Training of young influencers as reproductive health ambassadors and a sensitization and awareness creation in selected communities.

The AU in a message has urged member States to organize activities that focus on meaningful dialogue and engagement with the youth, fostering mutual partnerships and relationships amongst them and promoting their involvement in the development process of their countries.

Here in Ghana, the national celebrations are scheduled to come off at Cape Coast in the Central Region from Monday 1st -Wednesday 3rd November, 2021 under the local theme “Safeguarding Teenage Girls: A Clarion Call to Action”.

There will be activities in all Regions of the country. Some key activities planned to herald the day include a durbar and launch of a campaign on the need for a concerted effort to eradicate teenage pregnancies and improve the quality of live for adolescent girls in Ghana.

These activities will bring together the youth and major stakeholders in youth development to formulate strategic interventions to drastically reduce and prevent the incidences of teenage pregnancies in Ghana.

The general public, especially the youth are cordially and duly invited to participate massively in the activities commemorating the day.
