NYA Deputy CEO Urges Young People with Disabilities to Seize Opportunities at RISEE Project Graduation

The deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA), who is in charge of finance and administration, Mr. Adongo Atule, has emphasized the importance of networking and seizing opportunities, particularly for young people with disabilities.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Ready for Inclusive Sustainable Employment and Entrepreneurship (RISEE) Project held at the British Council, Accra, he highlighted NYA’s commitment to youth empowerment across various sectors, from archaeology to zoology.

Despite receiving the invitation late, he noted that NYA prioritized attending the event because of its significance in fostering connections and providing opportunities for young people.

Mr. Atule assured the graduates that NYA is committed to supporting young persons with disabilities, including creating employment avenues within the institution. He announced that come April 2025, NYA will engage stakeholders to develop strategies that enhance inclusion for young people with disabilities. He encouraged graduates to adopt the right mentality when approaching opportunities, stating that while challenges exist, perseverance and strategic networking can open doors.

The graduation event, attended by key stakeholders such as Sightsavers, Standard Chartered Bank, and the Ghana Business and Disability Network, featured panel discussions on employment prospects for persons with disabilities, as well as mentorship and internship opportunities. Graduates were urged to leverage the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to enhance their employability.

Employers also discussed ways to foster a more inclusive work environment, reinforcing the broader mission of the RISEE Project—to equip young persons with disabilities with the tools they need to thrive in the job market.
