One-day training/orientation held for frontline staff (regional/district) of the bono/bono-east/ahafo regional secretariats
The National Secretariat of the National Youth Authority has on Friday, 25th July 2020, organized a one-day training for officers from twenty (20) selected districts from the Bono, Bono-East and Ahafo Regions at Sunyani the Bono Regional Capital.
Welcoming participants, Mad. Fati Bamba, Bono Regional Director of NYA mentioned the crucial need for in-depth knowledge for the participants as implementers of youth development programmes in the discharge of their functions and said the training is timely as the abilities and competence of participants shall be greatly improved, arming them to effectively administer the mandate of the Authority.
She said the training shall afford all officers in the 3 regions a common platform and message to enable them discharge their functions in a more coordinated manner.
In his keynote address, CEO of the Authority, Mr. Sylvester Tetteh, recounted his last visit to the 3 regions where he mentioned issues such as staff welfare, the inadequate staffing situation and efforts being undertaken by management in consultation with the Board of Governors.
He touched on the Scheme of Service for the Authority which is complete and has recently undergone a validation process to identify gaps and ensure transparency whilst ensuring elimination of all forms of favouritism in line with requirements of the Public Services Commission (PSC).
He said upon approval and acceptance of the Scheme by the PSC, training programmes, promotions and other benefits should be made in a fairer and more transparent manner.
The CEO intimated that, upon adoption of the Scheme, the Conditions of Service for staff will be addressed.
He said whiles NABCO Personnel shall be given priority when the opportunity comes for recruitment, prospects shall only be recruited based on their demonstration of such qualities as discipline, commitment, dedication, innovation and creativity.
On the guidelines for regulating activities of youth organizations, the CEO commended the DCEO for Operations and Programmes, Mr. Nelson Owusu-Ansah for his tireless efforts and a good work done.
He said youth development work must be professionalised hence the need for innovation and relevant knowledge acquisition to aid in the performance of the functions of the Authority. He said the expected output of the training, upon completion, is an improvement in youth development work across board. He thus tasked participants to take the training serious considering the novelty of such a training for both permanent and temporary staff. He challenged participants to bring their distinct differences from their districts to bear to enrich the session.
Finally, Mr. Tetteh thanked participants for taking time of their schedules to attend the training session.
Giving an overview of the training, Mr. Nelson Owusu-Ansah, DCEO for Operations and Programmes touched on the essence of the gathering and the painstaking process of getting a document to aid in regulating youth development work in Ghana.
He said upon completion of the training, the officers would be in a position to put the energies and creativities of the youth in their jurisdiction to good use whilst situating the operations of the Authority properly i.e engaging our youth in a much more meaningful way.
He called for the attention, cooperation and active participation of all participants during the session.
Mr. Mumuni Sulemana, Director for Programmes and Operations at the National Secretariat gave a presentation on the Operational Manual for the Regulations of Youth Organizations in Ghana in Accordance with the National Youth Authority Act, 2016 (939).
He said the rationale for the development of the operational manual for registration of youth groups is to provide the needed guidelines to streamline and harmonize the registration of youth-led, youth-focused organisations in Ghana.
There was an open form where participants asked questions that were addressed by the facilitators.
