Management of the National Youth Authority led by the Ag. CEO Mr. Nelson Owusu Ansah on Tuesday 13th July, 2021, received a government delegation from Malawi led by the Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Ulemu Msungama (MP).

The delegation which comprised the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Oliver Kumbambe, the CEO of the National Youth Council of Malawi, Mr. Dingiswayo Jere and officials from the Ministries of Defence, Finance, Local Government, Economic Planning and the Police Service were at the Authority to study at first hand, the operations of the Authority particularly and the youth development services sector in general.

Giving an overview of the purpose of the visit, Hon. Msungama said Malawi has over the years followed keenly and taken note of Ghanta's strides in the area of youth development and that informed their decision to visit and to learn from Ghana’s success stories. He said the visit, besides affording them the opportunity to learn, shall also position them to appreciate and avoid potential challenges and shortfalls.

“Our key aim for including officials from our Defence Ministry on this trip, is to also pay attention to the discipline facet of youth development leading to attitudinal changes whose outcomes we believe shall enable us establish a more robust youth development delivery system in our country” Hon. Msungama noted.

For his part whilst welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Authority, Mr. Owusu Ansah recounted the origins of the Authority and the phases it has been through to its present state.

He touched on the administrative and operational functions of the Authority during his presentation and said as the apex body of youth delivery agencies, the Authority stands ready to share in knowledge, experiences and best practices in the area of youth development leading particularly to the strengthening and bolstering of South-South Cooperation as “it is in our best interest to build stronger collaborations” he stated.

He mentioned the Nation’s Builders Corps (NABCO) and Free Senior High School (FSHS) flagship programmes as some key interventions by government targeting young people.

Present at the meeting were Mrs. Akosua Manu, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance & Administration at the Authority who moderated the open forum segment, and all Directors and Unit Heads at the National Secretariat of the Authority.
