National Youth Authority calls for calm at Ejura

The National Youth Authority, has in a statement released on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, called on all persons particularly the youth within the Ejura/Sekyedumasi District of the Ashanti Region to be restrained and strive to bring back and maintain the peace and calm of the District.

Whilst unreservedly condemning the brutal lynching and killing of Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as Kaaka a resident of the area and the incidences of violence that resulted from clashes between the youth and security personnel dispatched there to maintain law and order, the statement, signed by the Acting CEO of the Authority, Mr. Nelson Owusu Ansah subsequently denounced the shooting to death and injuring of some demonstrators.

“Whilst acknowledging the swift arrests of the two alledged offenders of the heinous murder, the Authority would like to enjoin the police to further engender trust amongst its rank by expediting the process of bringing justice to Kaaka and his family as a matter of urgency” the statement said.

"The Authority thanks H.E the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his call for an immediate inquiry into the incident and prays the committee of inquiry shall complete the task and provide their report within stipulated time" the statement continued.

The statement went on to admonish the youth to remain calm at all times and to always use appropriate and legitimate means to seek redress and charged the youth to continue to have faith and confidence in the state institutions especially the police service as they commence investigations into the matter and seek to bring all found culpable to book.

“In recognizing the indispensable role played by traditional authorities and leaders of the Muslim community in the area for their unfettered resolve at restoring peace and calm to the area, it is our firm expectation as well, that justice will very soon be served” the statement concluded.
