The Kwadaso office of the National Youth Authority embarked on an ambitious project to provide education to at least half of all junior high school pupils within the municipality on Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health education. The project sought to educate and interact with over 55% of all Junior High School pupils within the municipality. As is well known in educational circles, Kwadaso prides itself on being one of the districts blessed and hugely endowed with all levels and forms of educational institutions. The municipality is arguably the foremost leader with many reputable junior and senior high schools in the Region.

Per statistics released by the Ghana Health service, Ashanti Region ranked as the number one region with the most cases of teenage pregnancies. The same data alluded to the fact that Kwadaso ranked as one of the Districts with the highest HIV/AIDS prevalent rates.

Through support by His Royal majesty’s foundation; OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II FOUNDATION, six boxes of Hersey’s Vivi snacks containing over two thousand five hundred (2,500) sachets of groundnut, ginger and cocoa snacks were acquired. The Authority also took stock of fifty copies of Abraham Gyesie’s best selling book “from despair to Hope - the HIV/AIDS story of Papa Kofi and his family”.

Close to 30 schools (both public and private) were engaged by a team of health professionals running for almost  two months ( 5th April - 28th May 2021 ), who interacted with over Four thousand (4,237) pupils.

At the end of each educational interaction session, chastity/virgin clubs were formed with the assistance of the educational heads. For the project to have any lasting positive effect, there’s the need to continuously drum home the need to abstain and practice a chaste life at this stage of their young lives.

The Kwadaso Office has been consistently swarmed with pupils from the schools that benefited from the project for further engagement.

Plans are far ahead to ensure the remaining 45% of the schools pupils reached fir this knowledge sharing undertaking.
