Past Engagements

Entrepreneurship Development

In order to shore up entrepreneurship among the youth, the Authority facilitated Ghana’s hosting of the official launch of the Commonwealth Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs – West Africa (CAYE-WA) in March, 2017, in Accra, Ghana. The Authority is currently hosting the Secretariat of CAYE-WA. 

In addition, the Authority has supervised the formation and management of the Ghana Chapter of the Commonwealth Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs CAYE-GH). The chapter has five (5) large youth entrepreneurship networks whose membership cuts across the length and breadth of the nation

Launch of STEP Project 

Flowing from the essence of the African Union theme for 2017, “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in the Youth”, the Authority organized a 5-Day livelihood Trades Skills Mini-fair and Exhibition form May 22-27, at the Jubilee Park, Kumasi, as the official launch of the STEP Project (Steps Towards Employment and Productivity): the Flagship skills development focus.

This was in partnership with the Federation of Professional Trades Association of Ghana (FEPTAG). The STEP Project mini-fair recorded 1,020 young people who have registered to undergo artisanal trades’ skills development on the day of the official launch; and it is ongoing.

The goal of the STEP Project is to “equip 50,000 young persons in the ages of 15 and 35 with artisanal skills in cosmetology, fashion design, tiling, welding and fabrication, plumbing, between 2017 and 2020 nationwide.

The strategic objectives of the STEP Project are Skills Development, Fostering Innovation and Local Enterprise Development

 

Job Shadowing of the Formal Sector Youth Development

To offer mentorship in entrepreneurship development alongside the mini-fair held in Kumasi, 250 students from selected Senior High Schools in Accra also went under coaching and mentorship with financial as well as service corporate institutions in the Airport City Business Enclave.

 

International Youth Day 

International Youth Day was observed by the Authority in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The day was celebrated with a “Presidential Youth Dialogue Session” on 11th August at the OSU Castle Gardens and a Health/Peace Walk on 12th August, 2017 with youth selected from all 10 regions nationwide. 

Over 2,000 young people including leaders of youth-focused NGOs participated.  

 

Youth Dialogue Session of the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa

On August 16, 2017, the NYA facilitated the Youth Dialogue Session of the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) in promoting Transparency, Accessibility and Inclusiveness in Government Development Initiatives through information sharing.

 

Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and Child Marriage Workshop

An advocacy workshop was held in Kumasi from 13th – 15th September, 2017 with support from UNFPA for focal officers in 10 Youth Leadeship & Skills Training Insitutes on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and Child Marriage. 

 

National Orientation Workshop for Regional and District

The Authority organized a National Orientation Workshop for Regional and District Directors in Koforidua from 27th to 30th September, 2017. Ninety-eight (98) officials took part in the workshop.

 

International Volunteers Day

This year’s celebration of the International Volunteer Day (IVD) was held at Kpone in the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA) on the 5th of December, 2017.

The IVD was celebrated on the theme: Volunteers Act First. Here, Everywhere.In attendance were about 150 international volunteers from some parts of Africa.

Over 800 young people joined to clean the environments in Kpone.
